Leinster Dressage Undefeated by Weather this time round!
22/06/2008 - Leinster Region
Arriving early last Sunday morning in Killossery, after a night's wind and rain, the show organisers were faced with having to rebuild the two dressage arenas which were by then scattered around the outdoor. Having had to cancel the first show of the winter season and reschedule the preliminary classes of another the decision was taken to continue with the show after consulting with the judges and the early competitors. The arenas were gathered up by show organisers, judges and competitors alike and replaced with a single arena in the indoor. This meant that classes ran somewhat late but all those that braved the elements were given the opportunity to compete. The first class of the day was the Amateur Preliminary Pony class (Test 12) where Larkin sisters Linnea (Touchy Boots) and Emelie (Hot Shot) were first and second. Locally based horse producer Irene Lawlor, making her ridden debut at Dressage Ireland on her own four year old Ballustree Okidoki, scored 63.06% from judge Ivor Harpur with to win the Amateur Preliminary class (Test 12) with Sandra Collins (General Blackie) and Liz Curran (Pure Bliss) in second and third respectively.
Ivor Harpur also judged the long arena registered Preliminary Class Test 15 which was won by another youngster HorsePlay Yogi Bear (Jenny Doran). This combination were also third in Preliminary Test 19 this time judged by Maire Quinlan Pluck, The winner in this class was Heidi Slott-Joergensen (Engtofft's Concore) with Petra Larkin (Amrita) in second place.
In Novice Test 38 Susann Tschoerner (Landanos Rolling Clover) was awarded 66.13% from Maire Quinlan Pluck to take first place with Philippa Mains (Index) and Smart Coin (Bernie Foley) in second and third. The second Novice class (Test 22) was overseen by David Lee who judged the remaining four classes of the day. Once again Heidi Slott-Joergensen took the red ribbon this time riding Engtofft's Gina. Second and third were Phillipa Mains (Index) and Jane Whitaker (Ambrose) respectively. David Keane and Layness 5 won both of the Elementary classes while Vivienne Seymour was delighted with her own O'Brien's Boy scoring 62% in Medium 64.
The show organisers would like to take the opportunity to thank the competitors for their patience, understanding and good humour with the late running classes and all those who helped out on the day. In particular Una McGettigan for successfully re-arranging two arenas into one without causing chaos!
Michael Moore judged the popular Amatuer Preliminary test 1 class as well as the registered Preliminary test 14. The winner in the Amateur section was Orlaith Frawley with ‘Father Dougal’ on a score of 68.42%. This lovely combination will be seen again this season in upcoming AIRC competitions where they will undoubtedly be consistently in the ribbons.
The next Leinster Dressage show takes place on July 6th in Killossery Lodge Stud but before that a reminder to all that on 2nd July 2008 Irish International riders Maureen and Kate Dwyer will present a demonstration titled 'The Scales of Training' at 6.30pm on Wednesday 25 June at Dollanstown Stud, Kilcock.
